In a small town not too far away from St. Louis, the body of Betsy Faria was found in her home. She had been stabbed 55 times. It was her husband Russell Faria who found her. He called 911 and claimed she had killed herself. But no one who arrived at the house thought she stabbed herself 55 times with a kitchen knife. The husband became the prime suspect.
Russ Faira had an “iron clad” alibi – four people said they saw him watching movies at a friend’s house miles away from the house. But then Russ’ slippers were found in a closet, stained with his wife’s blood. Russ said the real killer must have planted them. Russ Faira was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison, but not everyone agreed with the jury’s decision. Faira supporters want to know why Betsy’s friend Pam Hupp was never considered a suspect. Three days before Betsy’s death, Betsy changed the beneficiary on her $150,000 life insurance policy from her husband to Hupp. Dateline NBC will investigate the death of Betsy Faira on June 25 at 8pm (NBC).
