Apple has been slowly rolling out its search engine, Spotlight. iPhone users have been using it already. When you hit “slide down” on your home screen, that’s Spotlight. You can search without ads unless you consider App Store links ads. Entrepreneur/investor Jason Calacanis says Spotlight is Tim Cook’s way of “getting revenge on Google on behalf of Steve Jobs – -without doing it directly.”
Apple claims it will not store or use your personal information. Cook says Spotlight will give users the ability to search for “free,” as in ad-free and data-collection-free. But for how long? Note: Google launched in 1998. Google AdWords came two years later. Google AdSense one year after that.
