After 14 years together, ESPN has decided not to renew Bill Simmons’ contract. So far, Simmons hasn’t commented on the news. The New York Times reports that Simmons’ “seemed to have been blindsided by the timing of ESPN’s decision, which came more than four months before his contract is to expire, at the end of September.” ESPN president John Skipper made the announcement during an interview. He said the company is “better off focusing on transition.”
Simmons is the creator of ESPN’s popular website, Grantland, where he and former NBA star Jalen Rose interview athletes. Jalen Rose has remained quiet on the social media front, too.
