The new miniseries Texas Rising on The History Channel is about what happened immediately after the battle at the Alamo. Executive producer Leslie Greif (The Killing Fields, The Mission) explains that while everyone knows what happened at the Alamo no one knows what happened afterwards. Greif said: “In the first five minutes you see the Alamo, and then the story progresses through the battle of San Jacinto, up into the inauguration of Sam Houston as president, and the return of Santa Anna to his people in Veracruz.”
Sam Houston is portrayed by Bill Paxton. He’s best known for his roles as John Garrett in Agents of SHIELD, Bill Henrickson in Big Love, Hank in the Coen Brothers film A Simple Plan, Brock in Titanic, Bill in Twister, Fred Haise in Apollo 13, Pvt. Hudson in Aliens, and big brother Chet in the John Hughes cult classic Weird Science. Fun fact about real life Texan Bill Paxton: as a teen he caddied for golf legend Ben Hogan in Fort Worth. Texas Rising premieres on The History Channel on Monday, May 25 at 8pm.
