A Facebook spokesperson said that Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg returned to work today, albeit on a modified schedule. The Lean In author and widely respected role model lost her husband, SurveyMonkey CEO Dave Goldberg, less than two weeks ago. Goldberg died unexpectedly on vacation in Mexico. The couple have two daughters.
ReCode reports that Sandberg returns to work on the advice of psychiatrists who “suggested that kids often benefit by trying to get back to typical routines quickly.” Most people in a grieving situation must return to work to ensure financial stability for their family — no matter what the extenuating circumstances are. Sandberg, with a personal net worth of over $1 billion, is not in that position.
