Insurance companies hire private investigators like Bari Kroll and Bob Kiehn to catch workers’ comp fraudsters on tape. The fraudsters are those who try to game the system by faking an injury in order to collect disability payments.
Kroll says being a female P.I. has helped her catch fraudsters. “It’s still pretty uncommon for people to think women are private investigators.” She and Kiehn took a ABC News “20/20” camera crew with them to catch a farmer suspected of fraud. He claimed that injuries from a car accident has prevented him from his daily duties on the farm. After hours of surveillance, Kiehn sees and films the farmer “lifting a heavy object into his truck.” The most disturbing part of the episode is watching Kiehn do a happy dance. He is absolutely delighted to see the old farmer caught in the act. ABC News “20/20” airs Fridays at 10pm.
