Paul Reubens’ 1985 cult classic film Pee-wee Herman’s Big Adventure (directed by the then lesser-known Tim Burton) was a financial success. So was his TV show Pee-wee’s Playhouse. But his career took a big hit in 1991 when he was arrested for indecent exposure inside an adult theater. He hasn’t donned the grey suit and red bow-tie in public since. Now 62, Reubens is worth approximately $5 million.
Reubens is busy today reprising his most famous role for the film Pee-wee’s Big Holiday for Netflix. And he’s been dusting off his dramatic acting chops with guest appearances on TV shows including The Blacklist, where he played a bad guy named Mr. Vargas, opposite James Spader. It was delightfully weird. With a good run, this late Reubens revival could swiftly double his net worth.
