After his more than 30 years of coaching Duke, over 1,000 victories, and numerous Blue Devil conquests over my beloved Tar Heels, I have finally memorized how to spell Krzyzewski’s name. I just have to say aloud the first five letters like an L.A. disc jockey might announce his station’s call letters – “That’s right! 100% of the hits 100% of the time, right here on KR-ZYZ!!” After that, I just have to add the –ewski.
In case you haven’t had it up to here already with the greatness of the Duke’s men’s basketball coach, here’s just one more thing to consider about how vastly successful Mr. -Ewski has been in his career. Tom Izzo, of Michigan State, who leads a team that no one ever wants to play come late March (just ask the Virginia Cavaliers,) has coached for twenty seasons, been wildly successful up in Lansing, and still hasn’t reached 500 victories. That’s less than half the wins of–wait, yes–KRZYZewski!
