Lou Holtz’s thinly disguised Notre Dame cheerleading won’t be part of ESPN’s college football coverage anymore. The 78-year-old analyst is leaving ESPN after ten years–just a year shy of matching the time he spent as the Fighting Irish head football coach. ESPN is completely remaking its Saturday College Football Final, where Holtz worked. The trio that delivered the program is down to one, Mark May, after losing Holtz and seeing Rece Davis move to College GameDay.
Holtz’s agent told Sports Illustrated that Holtz “looks forward to other opportunities” in college football.
