With 2.5 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook got kneed in the face. It was his teammate Andre Roberson who inadvertently kneed him, leaving a visible dent near his eye. Westbrook underwent surgery the next day to fix the fracture in the zygomatic arch bone of his right cheek.
ESPN reports that the surgery was a success but Westbrook–who’s been averaging 26.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 8.1 assists in 45 games this season–won’t be able to play on Sunday against the Los Angeles Lakers. Newly acquired D.J. Augustin will take his place at the Staples Center (6:30pm ET, ESPN). Augustin has been averaging 8.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists in the last 10 games.
