“Welcome back to FOX 2 news in the AM. Time to get you all caught up with the headlines. For that, the Hamburglar,” said broadcaster Tim Ezel, tossing the St. Louis local news over to his colleague April Simpson. Simpson was dressed in a black-and-white striped shirt, reminding Ezel of the McDonald’s burger villain. Exel is wearing a t-shirt that says (not making this up) “The Dude.”
Simpson may or may not have been amused, but she was cool about it. “It is your birthday. I’ll let it pass.” she said. Then changing her mind: “I’ll get you later.” Making fun of what a woman wears to work isn’t cool goes the consensus. Ezel’s remark, trying to be funny, points up inequality in the workplace–remember last year a male news anchor wore the same thing to work everyday for a year and no one noticed. The comedian Kevin Hart shared the video adding simply “Whoah.” Of course then it got viewed 2 million times. Here’s hoping April does what that other anchor did–and keeps wearing the shirt for a year. A signature style statement really helps a personality breakthrough–just ask the Hamburglar.
