A Tesla Model S gets 200-plus miles per charge. That’s just so limiting for the free-spirited souls who gravitate toward the Tesla brand. “America, America,” one can almost hear Stephen Colbert–a professed Tesla enthusiast–saying, “is so much bigger than that.” Elon Musk hears you, free-range Tesla lovers. This week he’s going to fix your “range anxiety” so you won’t ever have to take the Range Rover up the coast again.
Musk tweeted that he will “end range anxiety on Thursday at 9am.” It’s a software update solution. Is it an enhanced warning app to instill more confidence in Tesla drivers who start to get nervous at around 150 miles? (But warnings, of course, sometimes only increase anxiety.) It’s more likely Musk is announcing increased range–achieved via a software update. Amazing–a new car without actually getting a new car. Because what everyone is really waiting for is the Musk announcement that Tesla will end “range limitation” not “range anxiety.” That fix would remove the range anxiety lickety-split.
Tesla press conf at 9am on Thurs. About to end range anxiety … via OTA software update. Affects entire Model S fleet.
