American Idol contestant Clark Beckham has made it to the Top 12. And he deserves it. Beckham used to be a street performer in Nashville, an experience he says “has probably been the most important thing I’ve done musically.” The days he spent on the street also affected him personally. “Most of the time you see and interact with homeless folk who don’t have anything and you realize just how lucky you are.”
Beckham recently told The Tennessean about the time he met a homeless man who was trying to play an instrument that he made on the street. Here was a man trying his hardest to make 50 cents while Beckham just made over $100 that day. “If I can put someone in a hotel who hasn’t had a bed, who has been sleeping on the street, how rewarding is that? Just to be able to do that on a small scale means everything. I want to continue to do that.”
