Chelsea club doctor Eva Carneiro has been subjected to sexist chants during matches. Male spectators have been recording and posting their grotesque chants on YouTube and Vine. In response, the organization Women in Football (WiF) has distributed a “sexist briefing note” among match day stewards and stadium safety officials.
In an official statement, Chelsea says: “The issue of equality is one we take extremely seriously and we abhor discrimination in all its forms, including sexism. Such behaviour is unacceptable and we want it eradicated from the game.” A campaign has been launched to highlight the growing number of women working in football/soccer. Will it make a difference? The 1,200 women working within the sport hope so.
