Shawn Patterson is the songwriter/composer behind Oscar-nominated song, “Everything Is Awesome,” from “The LEGO Movie.” He admits the song’s sardonic bite was influenced by his divorce. “It was ongoing, difficult, and my three kids were right in the middle. I know some sarcasm crept it,” Patterson told The Washington Post. “But it benefitted the song: ‘Everything really isn’t awesome right now, but we’re still going to have fun with it.’” The song has sold over 500,000 copies.
Twin sister duo Tegan and Sara will perform “Everything is Awesome” with The Lonely Island at the Academy Awards on February 22. P.S. Patterson is now working on Netflix animated series, The Adventures of Puss in Boots.
