The massive database of insurance company Anthem has been hacked. As many as 80 million records for past and present customers and employees have been exposed including names, birthdays, Social Security numbers, email addresses, and employment information. An Anthem spokesperson said, “There is currently no evidence that financial or medical information was compromised.”
Tom Gorup, security operations center manager for Rook Security, told CNBC.com, “Just because the attacker stole the data today doesn’t mean they’ll sell it tomorrow.” He added, “They could sit on this information for years.”
