UFC middleweight fighter Anderson Silva–widely considered the greatest fighter of all time–has tested positive for steroids. It was Silva’s first positive test in an 18-year career. The test was administered on Jan 9, but results weren’t available until February 3, according to ESPN. That is, until after Silva’s January 31 battle with Nick Diaz in Las Vegas, which Silva won by unanimous decision. A positive result coming back before the fight would have resulted in the fight’s cancellation and tens of millions in lost revenue.
Diaz also tested positive for drugs, though in a post-fight test. Diaz tested positive for marijuana metabolites. He’s been suspended for pot two other times. Diaz is a registered medical marijuana user in California.
