Oxfam International has released its findings including this nugget of data: “the richest one percent of people will own half of the world’s wealth by 2016.” Yahoo News anchor Katie Couric interviewed two of the wealthiest people in the world, Bill and Melinda Gates, about income inequality.
Bill Gates says “philanthropy is part of how we deal with those inequities.” While his wife Melinda says, “philanthropy can point the light on an issue that maybe isn’t being funded, or… take a risk that others won’t take.” She added, “But it always takes government to come in and fund these things.” Government, btw, is funded in large part by the other 99 percent.
