Wearing a black t-shirt struck in gold with the word “Unbroken”, Jon Jones pounded his chest as he was declared the winner in the UFC 182 main event at the MGM Grand. Must have been one tough t-shirt–surprising the letters didn’t fall right off. Jones outdueled–really out-wrestled–his formidable opponent Daniel Cormier on Saturday night to maintain the light heavyweight title. Basically, Jones reminded everyone that he’s the best fighter on two legs. In the world. Any style you choose. (Note: he basically wrestled Cormier, who was captain of the U.S. Olympic men’s freestyle wrestling team in 2008.)
Calling Cormier a formidable opponent may be a stretch, but he did what he had to do to keep the fight alive and force a decision. He even threatened in the second round, wounding the champ over his eye. But Jones remained, well, unbroken.
