Mergers and Acquisitions. It’s not just Marissa Mayer and Yahoo with its $50 billion valuation that’s going shopping in 2015. (Cramer is on the record thinking that a currently discounted Twitter is a great target for Yahoo.) Others believe Apple will snap up a few Twitter-type standalones, even Tesla! The way Apple bought Beats by Dr. Dre last year signaled a new willingness to bring in outside assets. Cramer thinks 2015 is going to be an M&A bonanza.
The dean of New York startup investors Fred Wilson of Union Square Ventures agrees. He wrote in his 2015 prediction post (“What Is Going To Happen“): “The big companies that were started in the second half of the last decade, Uber, Airbnb, Dropbox, etc, will start going public. Investors will be glad to scoop up some of their shares. That will lead, in turn, to a wave of acquisitions by these newly minted goldmines.”
