Head Coach Doc Rivers traded for his son, Austin Rivers, to help an under-performing Clippers team that has big expectations. Doc explained the move simply, saying: “He fits our team.” If the younger Rivers brings what he says he does, he’d be a great fit for any team. Here’s Austin Rivers’ assessment of what he brings to the Clippers, in his own words.
“For one, defense. Being a physical guard, a bigger guard, just trying to be physical with players. Guarding the one or two spot, even the three depending on who,” said Austin. Coaches like defense and the Clippers D has been suspect. How about on offense, Austin? “Offensively I can score the ball, and just play-make. That’s something I think the team needs with that second unit — someone who can make plays scoring and setting up other guys. Just someone who can attack the basket and kick out to other shooters.” Dad Doc wants all of that.
