Shannon Berthiaume is a 17-year-old from St. Paul, MN who’s auditioning on American Idol. Once she gets in front of the judges – Harry Connick Jr., Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban – Shannon gets a little freaked out. She tells them she’s nervous, they’re “intimidating.” JLo tries to settle Shannon’s nerves, “We’re friendly.”
And then Shannon bursts into the old folk song that the Animals made popular in the 1960s, ‘House of the Rising Sun.’ Shannon makes it her own. She gives a performance that will give you the shivers. As if you’ve just listened to the ghost of singing great Janis Joplin.
