Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was in a two-car crash Tuesday outside Charlotte, North Carolina. He suffered fractures to his lower back. Newton’s black pickup truck overturned on a road near the Bank of America Stadium, where the Panthers play. A team spokesperson , Charlie Dayton, says he believes Newton was on his way to the stadium. A person in the other car was also injured. Photos from The Charlotte Observer show the 25-year-old NFL player smiling as a police officer attended to him on the ground.
Dayton says Newton‘s fractures are similar to the injury Dallas quarterback Tony Romo has been playing through. Derek Anderson is the Panther’s backup quarterback and would likely replace Newton if the Heisman Trophy winner is unable to play Sunday against Tampa Bay.
