Oscar-nominated director Daivd Fincher (Gone Girl, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Fight Club, The Social Network) recently spoke with Playboy. He complained about studios treating “audiences like lemmings, like cattle in a stockyard.” He doesn’t want to be treated as if he’s “making Big Macs.” And that goes for his new project, too.
Fincher will direct a pilot episode of Living on Video. It’s a half-hour HBO project about music videos in the 1980s and the people who made them. He knows the subject well. Fincher directed a number of popular music vidoes back in the day, including Madonna’s “Vogue” and “Express Yourself,” Paula Abdul’s “Forever Your Girl” and Aerosmith’s “Janie’s Got a Gun.”
