Every holiday season, Mattel’s Barbie Camper and Barbie Dream House become hot commodities. But not everyone can afford the pink plastic camper ($100) or three-story house ($150). If you’re looking for something special for your Barbie girl living in her Barbie world, consider the less than $10 alternative — a Barbie movie.
Mattel has commissioned films to feature its best-selling doll Barbie since 1987. Barbie is the heroine of several stories which are based on stories written by The Brothers Grimm (Barbie as Rapunzel), Hans Christian Andersen (Barbie Thumbelina), Charles Dickens (Barbie in A Christmas Carol), Alexander Dumas (Barbie and the Three Musketeers) and even Mark Twain (Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper). Mattel wanted to make Barbie as the Sleeping Beauty but Disney filed a trademark application for the name Princess Aurora.
