Tom Hardy will break taboos, or something, in Taboo, a new drama series coming to FX. Set in 1813, Taboo is the tale of James Keziah Delaney (Hardy), “a rogue adventurer who returns from Africa with 14 ill-gotten diamonds to seek vengeance after the death of his father. Refusing to sell the family business to the East India Company, he sets out to build his own trade and shipping empire and finds himself playing a very dangerous game.”
The series–created by Hardy and his father, Chips Hardy (no jokes about snacks, please)–will be produced by Ridley Scott and written by Steven Knight. “FX is the perfect partner to engage with this dark, fantastic world that Tom and Steven have created,” said Scott. Knight’s name on the project signals a very good thing: he wrote the screenplay for–and directed Hardy in–the very excellent one-man chamber drama Locke. Taboo will premiere in 2016.
