Today show host Matt Lauer accused One Direction band member Zayn Malik of “substance abuse.” On air, Lauer interviewed the band — Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan — everyone but Malik, who was absent due to a “tummy bug.” Lauer wasn’t buying it.
Lauer asked 1D: “Is it something more serious than just a minor illness? There have been rumors of substance abuse. What’s going on?” Of course Malik’s mates denied the rumors. Malik voiced his anger about Lauer’s accusation/insinuation via The Sun. That was probably One Direction’s last appearance on the Today show…at least until NBC decides to replace Lauer.
