Jimmy Fallon gallantly stepped in for bad bicyclist Bono and U2, assuming lead vocal duties backed by his versatile house band The Roots on the Monday night edition of The Tonight Show. Fallon chose “Desire” from the seminal “Rattle and Hum” album to honor the Irish rockers who had to cancel their weeklong residency due to Bono’s recent cycling injury in Central Park in New York. Bono is scheduled to have surgery to repair the injury.
Fallon, among his many talents, specializes in spot-on impersonations of celebrities and musicians. Most notable are Mick Jagger and Neil Young. And Fallon didn’t disappoint with his best “Bono.” He donned a cap like the musician/humanitarian tends to wear and the ever-present wraparound sunglasses and took the mic. Fallon sung his heart out doing all the in-your-face classic stage moves with all the urgency and intensity he could muster. Could Bono, do you think, host a talk show?
