Jeff Goldblum has staying power. The towering 62-year-old leading man, who will forever be associated with his ability to morph into a fly, married his 31-year-old fiancee Emile Livingstone this week. They are expecting an entirely human baby together. Goldblum’s career is on happy autopilot, t00–he’s shows up in Wes Anderson movies and hip TV shows like Portlandia. And of course there’s the Jurassic Park franchise.
But what about Vibes?! Nobody ever mentions Vibes. Into each actor’s life a little rain must fall, and Vibes is a storm. The 1988 Goldblum effort rates a 6% on the Tomatometer at Rotten Tomatoes, and no critics–apparently–even had the temerity to weigh in. “Two hapless psychics unwittingly aid a criminal in his quest to obtain a mystic relic in this farcical adventure,” begins the description. What could go wrong? Especially if Goldblum’s co-star is Cyndi Lauper, then at the pinnacle of her fame, in her screen debut? Turns out lots! But look, Peter Falk is in this, too. Is it a gem with hidden charms that caught a bad break? Could be–especially if you miss the 80s. Have a look.
