Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant’s former agent had to negotiate with Jerry Jones and company after an 8-8 Cowboys season. (Actually three straight 8-8 seasons.) But Eugene Parker couldn’t make a deal for Bryant before this season started, and Dez jumped ship to Jay Z’s Rock Nation Sports–the outfit that just got Kevin Durant a slice of the moon from Nike. Jay-Z is in the kind of catbird seat that Parker could only dream of–the Cowboys aren’t the definition of mediocre anymore, they’re the surprise toast of the league.
Jay-Z and fellow mogul Cowboys owner Jerry Jones should have some interesting conversations going forward. Dez Bryant makes around $2 million this year. But his contract expires at the season’s end and he’s expected to get a deal paying him more than $12 million a year. That’s what Parker thought anyway. Which means Jay-Z must think $13 million. Bryant is having a huge year.
