The Hyundai Sonata broke new ground with the 2011 model, taking some lines from Mercedes and blowing up the Camry/Accord category with styling that caught the eye and safety ratings that warmed a mother’s heart. Now the four year run of that sleek, edgy Sonata body comes to a close–and the 2015 Sonata is a logical step for the settled sedan. It’s a little more modest, having grown out of its more daring coming out years. But the new 2015 Sonata sports a sexy maturity that only its recent heritage could allow.
The 2015 Sonata will give you either 185 horsepower or 245 horses should you choose a 2.0-liter turbo model. The curves this year look more dashing than dangerous, but the Sonata’s new maturity hasn’t made it any less frugal–the Sonata still shines at the pump with 32 mpg for the Eco model and even 28 mpg for the turbo. And there’s a hybrid, which is still sewing its oats apparently–because the 38 mpg hybrid 2015 Sonata is the only model still sheathed in the previous year’s sharp body. The new Hyundai Sonata is–across the board–a terrific fresh entry to the crowded family sedan category. It should keep Hyundai firmly on its upward trajectory.
