Former NBA star Dennis Rodman has maintained a long-standing relationship with the powers that be in North Korea. He calls Marshall Kim Jong Un “my dear friend for life.” Rodman claims that he played a vital role in the recent release of American prisoner Kenneth Bae, who spent two years in captivity in the Communist country.
Rodman wrote a letter to the Supreme Leader asking for mercy to Bae, saying he “would be eternally grateful for his safe return,” because that would be “a big step towards bridging the gap between our two nations.” Rodman says soon after he sent the letter, a video showing Bae alive and well was released–probably not a coincidence. Other Americans who have been detained in North Korea have been allowed to leave after clemency missions by prominent Americans, including former presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter.
