Proud misogynist Eminem and Australian singer/songwriter Sia have collaborated on the song Guts Over Fear. (They also worked together on Eminem’s track Beautiful Pain.) The video of Guts Over Fear shows Eminem rapping on a stool in an empty warehouse while the narrative follows a young man working in the kitchen of a restaurant washing dishes. Frustrated, struggling to pay the bills, living with a pregnant woman and angry father, the male character tries to win a boxing match to make ends meet. It’s a familiar story told in a visually familiar way, which reflects the lyrics Eminem sings: “Sometimes I feel like all I ever do is / Find different ways to word the same, old song.” He is recycling old material.
Sia doesn’t appear in the video. Instead Winnie Harlow, aka Chantelle from America’s Next Top Model, lip syncs Sia’s lines wearing a Sia-like blonde wig. Are you still awake?
