Danny Ainge thinks Ray Allen could play late-stage mercenary for a title contender, Right now, nobody really knows what’s going to happen in the NBA. Will the Lakers stay healthy? Can Cleveland gel as a unit? Will the Spurs get the same perimeter production they got last year, helping them spread the floor and drive everyone crazy? Dallas? Houston? What about one more guy to kick to in Oklahoma City, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook?
All these questions will find answers as the season goes on. By the halfway mark, you won’t need a crystal ball to see what’s what in the NBA–you’ll just need a TV. (The possible exception being the volatile Indiana Pacers.) Celtics president Ainge, who knows Allen well, told Sports Hub radio he thinks Ray Allen might just wait until things are more clear before he suits up. “He [Allen]may wait until the All-Star break or January,” Ainge said, according to A. Sherrod Blakely. Plus the shorter season and fresh legs may be just what the seasoned Allen needs to be most effective come the post-season.
