Reigning NBA MVP Kevin Durant is out of action with a broken foot. Durant will likely need surgery for a break near his small toe. Recovery time could be as long as eight weeks, if there are no complications, according to an announcement by the team.
It’s not clear how Durant was injured. OKC Thunder GM Sam Presti said Durant complained of discomfort in his foot on Saturday after practice. The injury occurred despite steps Durant took to regain his health after grueling post-season play. Two months ago Durant dropped out of USA Basketball to get the rest required to ensure that he’d be ready for the upcoming season. So far there has been no snarky schadenfreude from apparel giant Under Armour about whether or not Durant’s Nike shoes played a role in the star’s injury. Durant turned down Under Armour’s $300 million offer to jump from Nike to become its chief basketball brand ambassador. The quality of Nike shoes was one factor cited in Durant’s decision.
