Spanish actor Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men) is in talks to play a villainous ghost captain in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. If the deal is done, Bardem will costar with Pirate veterans Johnny Depp (Jack Sparrow) and Geoffrey Rush (Barbosa). The film, which will be shot next year in Australia, is to be released in summer 2017.
THR reports that Bardem’s character in Pirates “blames Sparrow for the death of his brother and is searching for a supernatural object to aid him.” Bardem knows how to play a villain. He did a fine job as Raoul Silva (an anagram of “a rival soul”) in the James Bond movie Skyfall. Some film critics said Bardem’s performance as the sexually ambiguous cyberterrorist was Oscar worthy.
