If Stan Van Gundy can turn around the Detroit Pistons, they may have him turn around the whole city next. Both team and city have been struggling through tough times. But unlike Detroit’s mayor, the new Pistons coach Van Gundy has some tools to put to work right away–the biggest one being 21-year-old 7’0″ center Andre Drummond. If you don’t know Drummond’s name, you will. His future is as bright as anything in the Motor City.
Van Gundy brings great experience working with game-changing big men. His time with Dwight Howard in Orlando may have ended with the malcontent Howard allegedly getting the coach fired, but that’s a badge of honor. If Dwight Howard doesn’t like you, you must be doing something right. Van Gundy is running the whole show in Detroit, too–he’s the president of the team, so he makes the personnel decisions. (The role keeps him from dealing with that Dwight Howard problem again.) Look for good things our of the Pistons. And when it happens, look for the city to start a grassroots Stan Van Gundy for Mayor campaign.
