Actor/comedian David Spade will reprise his mullet-wearing redneck role as Joe Dirt for Joe Dirt 2. It’s been 13 years since Joe Dirt was released in 2001. Spade said of the sequel: “I’m beyond stoked that Joe Dirt will finally hit the screens again… I’ve been sleeping in this wig for years, and it will be nice to wear it in the daytime again.” After a six-year run the TV series Rules of Engagement, which starred Spade as the misogynist Russell, ended in 2013.
Joe Dirt 2 will be filmed in Louisiana in November. It will debut on all Crackle platforms in 2015. Crackle general manager Eric Berger says Joe Dirt “has been a longtime viewer favorite, ranking among the most viewed in our library.” Former standup comedian and SNL writer Fred Wolf will co-write, direct and executive produce the sequel.
