Actress/comedian Carol Burnett was a huge fan of Jimmy Stewart. She used to talk about how much she “worshipped” him before her live audience. So, during the final episode of The Carol Burnett Show on March 29, 1978 (after an eleven year run), Jimmy Stewart made a surprise appearance on the stage. Burnett was speechless. “They hid him in the dressing room from me,” Carol Burnett told the Associated Press.
Burnett, now 81, was honored this week by the James M. Stewart Museum Foundation in Indiana, Pennsylvania. Past winners of the Harvey Award include actors Janet Leigh, Shirley Jones, Ernest Borgnine and Rich Little, who did the best Stewart impression in town. Harvey, btw, refers to the 1950 film in which Stewart befriends an invisible rabbit. A must-see.
