Dumb and Dumber To may be just a warm-up for fans who crave immature movie characters of questionable intelligence. Or unusual intelligence anyway. Pee-Wee Herman is hinting–well, Pee-Wee creator Paul Reubens is hinting–that the indelible Pee-Wee Herman character may be coming out to play again in a new adventure
It’s extremely hard to create memorable characters–that’s why once Hollywood finds one it can’t let go. (Look at Bond, Batman and Jason Bourne, just in the Bs.) Quirks in Reubens’ personal life dimmed Pee-Wee’s luster, but second chances–F. Scott Fitzgerald be damned–are the lifeblood of the American dream, especially in entertainment. And who better to revive than a character who was known to be irrepressible? Hey, remember Pee-Wee was big time–Tim Burton directed Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure in 1985. Rumors that started last year have Judd Apatow producing.
