Bungie, the team that created the game Halo, is testing their latest, $500 million project — the science-fiction shooter Destiny. They held an open beta this weekend for all home consoles – PlayStation 4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. So far, it’s receiving great reviews in the mainstream press.
Gamers can’t help but to compare Destiny to Halo (fast action, great weaponry and challenging bosses) and even World of Warcraft (due to its online, RPG-like structure). Haters say it’s too much like Halo. But The Verge’s Andrew Webster sees it as the perfect hybrid. He describes Destiny as “basically two of the most popular games from the past decade [Halo, World of Warcraft] fused into one experience that’s nearly impossible to put down.” One thing is for sure, with $500 million behind it, Destiny can’t afford to flop. The final product will be ready in September 2014.
