Utopia is a hit Dutch TV show that follows fifteen people as they try to create a civilization from scratch. They leave their everyday lives and move to an isolated, undeveloped location for one year. No electricity, limited amenities. It’s up to them to “rewrite the rules.” Utopia is dubbed “television’s biggest social experiment.” And now it’s coming to America. Although the series will premiere on September 7 on Fox, they’re always looking for hardy participants. If you have the ideas and problem-solving skills needed for starting up a new society, send an audition tape here.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Dutch and Americans differ. Will they choose democracy or dictatorship? Fidelity or free love? Religion or rationalism? The creator of Utopia is John de Mol (aka Johannes Hendrikus Hubert de Mol). He’s also responsible for the second biggest social experiment on TV–The Voice, where four famous musicians (Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Usher and newbie Gwen Stefani) search for the best new voices in the country.
