Former teen idol Shaun Cassidy is producing a new hour-long dramatic thriller Hysteria. Starring Mena Suvari (American Beauty, American Pie), Hysteria is set in Austin where “members of a competitive dance team are stricken with an illness that manifests in violent fits and spasms.” (Something similar allegedly happened to a real group of teenage girls in Le Roy, New York in 2012. Megan Abbott’s novel, The Fever, is based on that report.) In Hysteria, Suvari plays a skeptical neurologist who’s called back to her hometown to investigate.
Hysteria will debut on Prime Instant Video later this year on Amazon. Just like the other Amazon pilots, The Cosmopolitans, Really, and Hand of God, viewer feedback will determine if it will be developed into a full series.
