Orange Is The New Black fans know actress Kate Mulgrew as Galina “Red” Reznilov on the Netflix hit. For her performance as Red, “a flame-haired inmate who runs Litchfield prison’s kitchen with an iron hand,” Mulgrew is nominated for a 2014 Emmy Award (Outstanding Supporting Actress). Mulgrew is versatile too: Sci-fi fans know her as Captain Kathryn Janeway in Star Trek: Voyager (the first female captain in the Star Trek series!) and soap opera fans remember her as Mary Ryan on Ryan’s Hope.
The 58-year-old actress has a lot of experience, in front of the camera and off. So she’s writing her memoir. The as-yet-untitled book, scheduled to come out in May 2015, will reveal Mulgrew’s deeply personal story. Especially moving apparently is the story of how, during the start of her career, she gave up her daughter for adoption and then years later reunited with her. “The costs and rewards of a passionate life” might be the tagline.
