If they ever think about recasting the little golden Emmy statuette, they could do no better than to model it on Betty White. No entertainer has had a longer and more durably brilliant TV career than Ms. Betty White, who attended her first Emmy award show in 1951! That’s 63 years ago. Think about it: imagine seeing tonight’s Emmy nominees still making great television in 2077! White, who at 92, is clearly the grande dame of funny TV is still going strong. Hey she won an Emmy in 2010–for hosting Saturday Night Live! Hosting SNL is one of the most rigorous jobs in entertainment, plus the curtain’s not till 11:30 pm on Saturday–six hours after the early bird dinner specials end in Boca Raton.
Recently Golden Girls producer Tony Thomas talked about Betty White with the Hollywood Reporter. Thomas waxed nostalgic about how the Golden Girls show “was magic from the very beginning. They made great scripts fantastic and made good scripts great.” The statuesque Betty White would make a great statuette.
