Ben Affleck plays Nick Dunne, prime suspect in the case of his missing-and-presumed-dead wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) in the film Gone Girl. Based on Gillian Flynn’s bestselling crime thriller, Gone Girl is directed by David Fincher, who said Affleck was perfect for the role. Like his character, Affleck knows what it’s like to be “hounded by the press and second-guessed by a judgmental public.”
“It wasn’t something I had to do a lot of research for,” Affleck told Entertainment Weekly. (Affleck and Pike are on the EW cover this week, in character.) “I knew what it was like to have the tabloid world paying attention to me and ascribing negative motivations to whatever I might be engaging in. I knew what it was to be cast in a soap opera I had no control over.”
