Hitmaker Linda Perry–she wrote Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful” and Pink’s “Get the Party Started”–was answering questions in her Reddit AMA when somebody wondered about Beyoncé taking credit as a “co-writer” on one of Perry’s tunes after changing a word. “Well hahaha um thats not songwriting but some of these artists believe if it wasnt for them your song would never get out there so they take a cut just because they are who they are. but everyone knows the real truth even Beyoncé.”
Perry is a superstar writer and producer–having also worked with Gwen Stefani and Alicia Keys. In her spare time she rips vocals like Axl Rose as the frontwoman for 4 Non Blondes. Perry went into the AMA guns blazing too–“I’m Linda Perry, legend, genius extraordinaire, and also married to Darlene from Roseanne. And one bad mfk’er.” Someone asked about “Beautiful” and Perry replied: “i was inspired by my low self esteem. when i wrote it i was shocked that i was saying “I am Beautiful” i didnt feel that way. but now it totally makes sense what it was really about.” Things change.
Perry is currently promoting The Linda Perry Project on VH1 and tweeting it up.
