Epicurious suggests enjoying your summer watermelon with a little kick in it. Food journliast Alessandra Bulow has lots of suggestions including turning that giant watermelon on your kitchen counter into a keg. Here’s the simple recipe: cut off the top, scoop out the flesh (save for later recipes) and then insert a hole and spigot and fill the melon with gin, grenadine, syrup and lemon juice.
If that sounds too decadent, make watermelon “shots.” Same directions but insert vodka bottle upside down into the opening and let it seep into the fruit for four to 12 hours. Then slice and serve.
