On Sunday, July 23, the New York Mets face the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. Third baseman Brett Baty, 23, is in the starting lineup for the Amazins.
Baty committed to play college baseball for the University of Texas before being selected by the Mets in the first round of the 2019 MLB Draft. He signed a $3.9 million contract and since then has played with the Gulf Coast League Mets, Kingsport Mets, Brooklyn Cyclones, Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Baty was promoted to the Syracuse Mets in August 2022.
That same month, the 6’3″ third baseman was called up to the major leagues and hit a home run in his first major league at-bat. Watch video below.
Cheering him on and wearing his #22 jersey at games these days is Baty’s girlfriend, 6-foot-tall collegiate volleyball star Anna Sprys. See ballpark photos below.
The middle hitter on the women’s team at Binghamton University (go Bearcats!), Sprys is also a first-year MBA graduate student at Binghamton. That background could come in handy for the couple, when Baty signs his next big contract.
The New York Mets vs. Boston Red Sox game will be broadcast at 7 pm ET on ESPN.
