Mary Trump never misses an opportunity to take aim at her Uncle Donald — and the former President’s legal troubles are providing plenty of prompts for Trump detractors like his estranged niece. (On the other side, his legal predicaments have been a boon for Donald Trump’s fundraising and a support booster among the MAGA GOP faithful.)
Mary Trump is now tweeting about the Special Counsel Jack Smith‘s investigation into Donald Trump’s post-Presidential handling of sensitive documents and telling her followers “there’s a chance Donald Trump could be charged with espionage.”
Calling it “good news,” Mary Trump says newly reported information suggests that “Jack Smith has zeroed in on the type of documents Donald illegally removed from the White House.”
In case you need some good news, there’s a chance Donald Trump could be charged with espionage.

Newly reported information reveals that Jack Smith has zeroed in on the type of documents Donald illegally removed from the White House–and then refused to return–including a… pic.twitter.com/kEG3oyG5kS
Mary Trump also writes that “According to legal expert Dave Aronberg, who spoke with MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace, violators of the Espionage Act, or 18 USC 719 (e), could face up to ten years in prison.”
Notably, CNN reports on Smith’s investigation that as of yesterday “no one has been charged with any crime in the federal documents probe. Yet prosecutors in recent weeks have moved aggressively to lock down witness testimony in the grand jury and have gathered significant documentary.”
Mary Trump’s position in the Trump universe is unique, as discussed here: “Mary Trump wields a blade that would hardly cut if her uncle hadn’t sharpened it for her. That weapon is the Trump name, which the former president has turned into one of the biggest brands in the world. It guarantees attention, if sometimes only modest, for any claim Mary Trump makes about the Trump family. Because she is a Trump.” (She wrote a book about how her family created “the world’s most dangerous man.”)
The “good news” description comes as no surprise. The Trump vs. Trump acrimony runs deep: Mary Trump has sued Donald Trump — and lost her case — over the distribution of her inheritance.
